Free Trauma-Informed Care Training in Macon County

Free training on trauma-informed care is available for people who work in community-based organizations, health care or education settings or who work closely with people in vulnerable populations.

The training will be offered both virtually and in-person for people in Christian, Logan, Macon, Morgan and Sangamon counties thanks to a partnership between Memorial Health, SIU Survivor Recovery Center and Heritage Behavioral Health. 

 Dates and times follow:

  • Christian County: 4 – 6 p.m., Thursday, April 18, Lincoln Land Community College
  • Logan County: 4 – 6 p.m., Thursday, June 20, Lincoln Memorial Hospital
  • Macon County: Three sessions available. 10 a.m. – noon, Wednesday, May 15, virtual class; 1 – 3 p.m., Tuesday, June 11, Decatur Public Library; 10 a.m. – noon, Thursday, July 18, virtual class
  • Morgan County: 4 – 6 p.m., Thursday, May 16, Jacksonville Memorial Hospital
  • Sangamon County: Two sessions available. 9 – 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 10, virtual class; 9 – 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 18, Salvation Army on Clearlake Drive, Springfield

“The goal behind this training is to decrease the stigma around those seeking care for mental wellness,” said Sonja Chargois, a community engagement and equity, diversity and inclusion coordinator at Memorial Health. “Participants will learn practical tools for how to approach their work in a trauma-informed way and increase client engagement, outcomes and community wellness.”

Attendees will learn about trauma’s complex impact, creative and compassionate responses and the importance of caring for self. There are no continuing education credits offered at this time.
