As a community health worker for Healthy Jacksonville, Erika Jennings is tasked with engaging her clients to take an active role in their healthcare. “It’s so rewarding to witness their health and personal lives improve,” said Jennings. “It’s cool to see them reach milestones in their lives and being that person they trust to help them.” Her efforts to empower her clients was one of the reasons she was selected Colleague of the Month.

“I go to the homes of my clients to evaluate their status and help connect them with services in Jacksonville,” said Jennings. “I enjoy working with my colleagues here and in the community to find answers for clients who are struggling. I like seeing families excited to see me.” Her work may range from helping clients with making medical appointments to connecting clients with social service agencies to simply listening to the needs of her clients. 

Jennings has an associate degree in health education from Lincoln Land Community College. She is currently attending the University of Illinois-Springfield working towards a degree in legal studies that she hopes to use with social work or civil law.    

Jennings and her fiancé, Mark, will be married later this year. They are the parents of two children. In her free time, Jennings enjoys traveling, playing volleyball, exercising and spending time with her family.

The Colleague of the Month at Passavant receives eight hours off with pay, a special plaque and pin, a close parking space for one month in the physicians’ parking garage and a decorated cake.
