Safe Sitter, a class designed to prepare children ages 10-15 to be safe when home alone, babysitting or watching younger siblings, is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11, in Meeting Rooms 2 and 3 at Passavant Area Hospital.
The Safe Sitter class includes:
Safety Skills: Students learn how to prevent unsafe situations and what to do when faced with dangers such as power failures or weather emergencies.
First Aid and Rescue Skills: Students often report that learning skills such as choking rescue is their favorite part of the class. Students also learn a system to help them assess and respond to injuries and illness. CPR instruction is included.
Child Care Skills: Students learn tips to manage behavior that will help them stay in control of themselves and the children in their care. Students also learn the ages and stages of child development, as well as practicing diapering.
Life and Business Skills: The ability to screen jobs, discuss fees and greet employers will set up students for success now and in the future. Students practice these skills through various role-playing exercises.
Register early as the class fills quickly. Class fee is $35. Lunch is provided. Online registration is available at PassavantHospital.com/Community/Calendar-of-Events or call 217–479–5800.
