The August meeting of the breast cancer support group at Memorial Medical Center will focus on yoga.
Elizabeth Wiser, a simulation radiation therapist at Memorial Medical Center, who has a yoga certification, will lead participants in mindfulness exercises and will discuss and lead them in chair yoga, which includes chest exercises, stretches and breathing.
“Yoga is a great way to engage in mindfulness, reduce stress and anxiety and increase strength, flexibility and blood flow,” said Naomi Wands, a registered nurse and community cancer education coordinator who leads the monthly meetings. “It treats the mind, body and soul.”
No special equipment or gear is needed for the session. Participants are recommended to wear comfortable, casual clothing.
The meeting begins at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, in the Clarke Conference Room (E-118) in Memorial Medical Center, 701 N. First St., Springfield. Light refreshments will be served.
The group meets on the second Tuesday of each month except for December. For more information, call 217-757-7684.
