The Logan County Department of Public Health, Lincoln Park District, and Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital are excited to invite the public to the free Wellness Expo on Saturday, February 16 from 9:00am – 1:00pm at the Lincoln Park District. ALMH will be providing free lipid profile and blood sugar screenings at this year’s event.
“We recognize that our responsibility to keep the community healthy extends outside the walls of the hospital,” said Angela Stoltzenburg, ALMH Community Health Collaborative director.
The American Heart Association recognizes that cholesterol plays a major role in a person’s heart health. High blood cholesterol is a major risk factor for coronary heart disease and stroke. The AHA recommends that individuals over 20 should have cholesterol checked every four to six years and more often if you are at an elevated risk.
“The screenings will be done on-site with a single finger prick and will provide results within 2 minutes. For those individuals who participated in screenings at The ALMH Market, it’s important to note that we are using the same analyzer so they will benefit from a consistent result and should bring their “Know Your Numbers” tracking card,” said Stoltzenburg.
For the most accurate results, individuals should fast for 8 hours prior to the lipid and blood sugar test.
