Garrad Straube, Kelly Vandermaiden, Henry Janssen and Madeline Jackson were the first place overall winners at this morning’s 26th Annual Passavant-Gatorade 5K and 10K Race at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville, Illinois.
Vandermaiden captured the overall women’s 5K title for the third consecutive year in a time of 19 minutes, 58 seconds. Straube won the men’s overall 5K title in a time of 16 minutes, 45 seconds, almost a minute faster than last year’s winning time.
Janssen won top overall honors in the men’s 10K for the second year in a row in a time of 35 minutes, 42 seconds. He bettered last year’s finish by 42 seconds. Jackson was first overall in the women’s 10K in a time of 46 minutes, 37 seconds.
Awards were also distributed to first, second, and third place finishers, male and female, in 14 age categories.
Three hundred fifty-four runners competed in this morning races through Jacksonville’s west side. The 2018 beneficiary is Ainsley’s Angels in Central Illinois.
