Losing weight can be a difficult task, especially when you've hit a plateau and don't know what to do next. Memorial's Weight Loss & Wellness Center offers support groups for patients who have had bariatric surgery, as well as their family members, and to anyone who is considering medical weight loss or bariatric surgery. Both the Weight Loss & Wellness and Bariatric Support Groups meet here, utilizing the M.G. Nelson Family Auditorium and the 2A Curtis Theatre Classroom. Occasionally, attendees of the groups bring articles of clothing that no longer fit them. Other members can then shop for new clothes as they progress through their weight loss journey.
According to Wendi Schutte, Medical Weight Loss Coordinator for the Bariatric Surgery Program, "our patients actually arrange everything for the clothing exchange." Wendi says that one of their patients reached out after participating in the clothing exchange last year. "We helped to facilitate a location and time and otherwise, they do it all themselves." Wendi says that the patients have also created their own private Facebook group so that they can exchange clothing with each other on an as needed basis!
The Weight Loss & Wellness Support Group meetings every first Tuesday of the month. For more information, please visit Memorial's website, memorialmedical.com, or visit their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/MemorialWeightLossandWellnessCenter/.
