EMS Olympics

On Tuesday, November 14th, several area emergency medical services team members participated in the EMS Olympics. Athens Fire Department, Engine #2 and #10 from Springfield Fire Department, Capital Area Career Center (CACC) vocational students and a team, affectionately called the 'misfits', made up of members from the Illinois State Police, Memorial Medical Center Emergency Department and CACC, competed in timed events held in the 3rd Floor SImulation Center. A thirty second penalty was added on to the final times for those skills performed incorrectly. According to Tami Carpenter, EMS Learning Facilitator, there were seix stations to complete which included:
Airway
Rescue Task Force - Evaluation
Patient Assessment
Apgar Scoring on a Newborn
Rescue Task Force - Treatment and Evacuation
Potluck: Participants did a blind draw and completed the skill listed

B-Line technology, which is a recording/viewing application available here, was utilized so that other participants could watch thier competitors during their events! Both Air-Evac and Organanization Learning Operations donated prizes for the winners. The EMS Olympics are held annually in November.
