Dominic “Dom” Orr, RN, in Acute Care at Taylorville Memorial Hospital, has been named the nonprofit hospital’s September Colleague of the Month.
Orr was recognized for his careful observation and quick response while caring for an older patient who experienced possible seizure activity during morning rounds. The patient had no known history of seizures.
“Dom stayed with the patient throughout the episode, monitoring for respiratory distress and helping protect the patient from injury,” wrote the nominator. “Because the episode had ended before other nursing staff arrived at the bedside, he also provided a clear, detailed account of what he had observed.”
Orr’s actions helped the care team evaluate the change in the patient’s condition, leading to new orders and ultimately a transfer to a higher level of care. He continued checking on the patient for further abnormal symptoms.
Orr joined Taylorville Memorial Hospital in May 2025.
