New Wellness Path to Open at Taylorville Memorial Hospital

9/21/2026

Taylorville Memorial Hospital will celebrate the opening of its new Wellness Path with a ribbon-cutting and open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, on the hospital campus.

The path is designed to provide patients, visitors, colleagues and community members with a free, safe and accessible place to walk, spend time outdoors and support their physical and mental well-being.

The Wellness Path was made possible through support from the Lumpkin Family Foundation, which awarded a $20,000 grant toward the project, and the Taylorville Memorial Foundation, which funded the remainder of the project, including concrete, landscaping, benches, signage and other improvements.

“We’re proud to support this project that creates a welcoming space for people to walk, connect with nature and enjoy the community around them,” said Heidi Dusek, executive director of the Lumpkin Family Foundation. “Investments like this walking path help make our communities healthier, more accessible and more connected for people of all ages.”

The path supports the hospital’s Community Health Implementation Plan priorities, including chronic disease prevention and mental health. The project was designed as a long-term investment in prevention that extends the hospital’s mission beyond clinical care and into everyday life.

“The Wellness Path reflects our belief that good health starts long before someone enters a hospital room,” said foundation director Katie Champion Williams. “This project gives our colleagues, patients, families and neighbors a welcoming space to move, reflect, connect and take steps toward better health.”

The ribbon-cutting and open house also will help promote the next Taylorville Memorial Hospital “October in Motion” challenge, which begins Oct. 1. Interested participants can register on the October in Motion Pacer App.

The path already has received positive feedback. One colleague shared that the new walking area is “so needed and appreciated,” noting it offers a relaxing place to walk without concern about traffic.

The Wellness Path will be maintained and used as part of Taylorville Memorial Hospital’s ongoing community health efforts, with future programming and partnerships focused on physical activity, mental well-being, social connection and chronic disease prevention.

“We are grateful to the Lumpkin Family Foundation and to the Taylorville Memorial Foundation Board for recognizing the lasting value of this project,” Williams said. “The path will serve this community for years to come, whether someone uses it during a lunch break, after an appointment, with family or as part of a community walking challenge.”
