Public Invited to Take Part in Macon and Moultrie County Harvest Hustle This October

9/15/2026

Decatur Memorial Hospital is encouraging residents in Macon and Moultrie counties to join the free Harvest Hustle, a month-long community wellness challenge taking place Oct. 1-31, 2026.

For Vivian Goodman of Decatur, participating in the Mindful Miles challenge this past May helped her rediscover a healthy habit she had been missing.

"I've always enjoyed walking, but life got busy, and I wasn't making time for it," Goodman said. "The Mindful Miles challenge gave me the motivation I needed to get moving again. Since May, I haven't missed a day of reaching at least 10,000 steps, and I can truly feel the difference in my energy and overall well-being."

The Harvest Hustle invites people of all ages and fitness levels to make movement part of their daily routine this fall. Participants can walk, run, cycle or hike to reach their goal, and wheelchair users are welcome. All activities can be completed at a time and location that works best for each participant while miles are tracked through the free Pacer app.

Participants can register https://www.mypacer.com/organizations/maconandmoultrie217/invite and use their smartphone or sync a smartwatch to record activity. Anyone who logs 100 or more miles during October will receive a Harvest Hustle T-shirt.

"The Harvest Hustle is a simple, enjoyable way for people to focus on their health while taking advantage of the fall weather," said Sonja Chargois, community health consultant. "It's a great opportunity to stay active and build healthy habits. Invite a friend or group to take the challenge with you!"
