Springfield Memorial Hospital has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report for high-quality care in its annual ranking of hospitals.
This year, U.S. News announced hospitals that have demonstrated superior outcomes. Springfield Memorial Hospital was ranked number four in Illinois for high performing in rehabilitation. They were also listed as high performing in seven specialized treatment areas including:
- Back surgery (spinal fusion)
- Hip replacement
- Knee replacement
- Gynecological cancer surgery
- Ear, Nose & Throat surgery

U.S. News evaluated nearly 4,500 hospitals across 14 adult specialties and 23 procedures and conditions; only 16% of evaluated hospitals earned a Best Hospitals designation.

Decatur Memorial Hospital, which like SMH is part of Springfield-based Memorial Health, was also recognized by U.S. News & World Report this year.
The U.S. News Best Hospitals rankings serve as a starting point for patients and families, who should consult with their personal physicians when making specific healthcare decisions.
