Amanda Martin, a registered nurse in the Obstetrics Department at Passavant Area Hospital, is the newest recipient of a Daisy Award. The award was presented during a ceremony February 24 in Obstetrics.

Passavant partners with the Daisy Foundation to give the award each quarter to a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse who consistently demonstrates excellence through clinical expertise and extraordinary compassionate care.

Her nomination from a grateful co-worker read, “Amanda was my primary labor nurse. She was very competent, kind, supportive and understanding. As a first time parent, she was able to teach and reassure my husband with many things and instill confidence in him during my labor. All of the nurses were good; however, Amanda was outstanding! She made my labor experience the best that it could be. She needs to be recognized for how compassionate and caring she was. She was very present and quick to answer my call light. She was a great labor coach, and I will be forever grateful for the experience she provided to us. Amanda is a great representation of the hospital and what a nurse should be. I am thankful she was my nurse.”

“Receiving the Daisy Award means that I helped make a difference in that family's life and that's all I ever want. I love being able to teach and prepare a family for this unique experience. Helping the family stay calm, keeping the environment light and relaxed and talking them through what's next is key to having a smooth and enjoyable experience,” Amanda said.

Amanda received her bachelor of science degree in nursing from Chamberlain College of Nursing. She has been employed at Passavant two years.
