Ashton Bennett, RN, has been named the April Colleague of the Month at Taylorville Memorial Hospital (TMH). Bennett, who has worked at TMH since April 2021, is recognized for the calm, capable way she supports patients, families and colleagues on the acute care unit.
As a bedside nurse, Bennett is known for stepping in wherever she is needed, whether that means answering a call light, assisting with a two-person transfer or helping a colleague manage a busy assignment. Her nominator described her as someone who “is always ready and willing to help the techs and nurses alike,” adding that colleagues know they can count on her in demanding situations.
Bennett is also praised for the way she advocates for patients and helps them feel at ease. She takes time to explain the care plan, answers questions from patients and families in language they can understand and is quick to respond to patient requests.
“Ashton develops a great rapport with her patients and family members, always putting them at ease and lessening any tension in the room,” wrote her nominator. “She sets a positive example for newer team members through her work ethic, compassion and willingness to support others.”
Colleagues say Bennett’s steady presence contributes to a safe, high-quality environment on the unit. She is attentive to safety needs, readily volunteers to assist with lifts and transfers and consistently checks on patients to ensure their needs are met.
The Colleague of the Month award celebrates Memorial Health colleagues who exemplify excellence in their roles and embody the organization’s mission, vision and values.
