The JMH Market Set to Open May 3

4/22/2025

A program sponsored by Jacksonville Memorial Hospital will again allow shoppers to use a Link card to purchase food at the Jacksonville Farmers Market, which opens for the season on Saturday, May 3, and runs through Oct. 25.

“The farmers market provides important access for people to fresh, locally grown produce that helps improve overall health,” said JMH Community Health worker Erika Procarione. “The market offers families a fun vibe, encourages community engagement and supports the local economy. It’s definitely a win-win.”

The hospital received a Link Up Illinois grant from Chicago-based nonprofit organization Experimental Station to double the value of Link card purchases made at the farmers market. The grant is intended to provide fresh food access to underserved populations in rural communities. The Link match allows one free voucher for every $1 token purchased, which may be used for fruits and vegetables. (Tokens may be used for any edible item.)

The Jacksonville Memorial Foundation also supports the Link card program at the market.

The Jacksonville Farmers Market opens May 3 at Pathway Plaza, 1905 W. Morton Ave., Jacksonville. The market is open 7 a.m. to noon on Saturdays through Oct. 25. Additionally, from May 20 to Sept. 3, there will be Tuesday (7 a.m. to noon) and Wednesday (4 to 6 p.m.) hours as well. JMH staff will be available at the Link booth during the Wednesday and Saturday hours only.
