Week of the Young Child Declared in Springfield at Memorial Child Care

4/10/2025

Springfield Mayor Misty Buscher led a proclamation ceremony on Thursday, April 10, at Memorial Child Care, 401 W. Miller, that highlighted the importance of early childhood development and the critical role of those who support young children and their families.

The ceremony was part of a collaboration between Birth to Five Illinois: Region 51, Memorial Health and the City of Springfield to celebrate “Week of the Young Child,” a national celebration that runs April 5 – 11.

“We appreciated the opportunity to welcome Mayor Buscher to our Memorial Child Care facility,” said Rebecca Reynolds, director of Memorial Child Care. “We love being a part of Springfield’s early childhood community, and the city’s commitment to investing in its youngest residents and elevating the importance of early childhood education and care in the community is commendable.”

Regional Council manager Ashley Earles with Birth to Five Illinois: Region 51, says the activities planned for Week of the Young Child – Music Monday, Tasty Tuesday, Work Together Wednesday, Artsy Thursday and Family Friday – helped serve as a reminder that the early years are learning years.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with Memorial Health, Memorial Child Care and the City of Springfield to bring awareness and celebration to the foundational years of life,” she said. Week of the Young Child is an annual initiative of the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
