Public Invited to Free Educational Event on Heart Health at Decatur Memorial Hospital

2/18/2025

Two Memorial Specialty Care cardiologists will host a free educational event in honor of American Heart Month.

The event, “Heart Healthy in Decatur,” will be held at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Dr. Nakeya Dewaswala and Dr. Adebola Orekoya will cover the signs and symptoms of congestive heart failure and coronary artery disease, as well as how to prevent and manage the conditions.

“American Heart Month is a great time to remind everyone of the importance of heart health,” said Dr. Dewaswala. “There are so many proactive steps people can take to avoid heart problems as they age and strengthen their hearts for a lifetime.”

Knowing the signs of coronary artery disease is particularly important for women, who may not experience traditional “heart attack symptoms,” Dr. Orekoya said.

“Often, women with heart problems aren’t aware of what their symptoms mean,” she said. “Awareness can make a big difference in outcomes.”
