Alisha Waller, a case manager at Decatur Memorial Hospital, is the nonprofit hospital’s Colleague of the Year for 2024.
Waller plans to pursue a Case Management Certification in the future. “The most rewarding part of my job is being able to help patients and families navigate through complex, often stressful decision-making processes, especially when resources are limited,” she said.
Waller was commended for the way she managed a patient’s care in two extended stays at DMH. She took time to explain the situation to the patient’s family, gave them things to consider from a long-term care perspective and shared helpful resources.
“She talked us through hard things to consider for the future,” the nominator wrote. “She worked with insurance, which was not easy, to find a placement in a location that met our family’s needs and helped reduce our stress as caregivers. Her kindness, humor and thoughtfulness were very much appreciated by our family.”
Waller and her husband live in Long Creek with their three children. She has worked for Decatur Memorial Hospital since 2008 and was the DMH May Colleague of the Month in 2024.
The Colleague of the Year is selected at each Memorial Health affiliate from individuals previously named Colleague of the Month throughout 2024.
