Decatur Memorial Hospital Releases Community Health Needs Assessment Report

12/2/2024

Decatur Memorial Hospital has completed its community health needs assessment report and listed its four health priorities online for the region for the next three fiscal years. They are mental health, racism, cancer and unemployment. Mental health was also singled out as a priority for all five hospitals in Memorial Health.

DMH will develop an implementation plan to address these priorities in fiscal years 2025 through 2027.

To complete the assessment, Decatur Memorial Hospital collaborated with HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital, the Macon County Health Department and other health and social service providers that represent vulnerable members of the community.

“No single hospital, agency or governmental body can be entirely responsible for the community’s health,” said Drew Early, president and CEO of Decatur Memorial Hospital. “We encourage the public to view our local data findings and apply them to any local initiatives, grant applications or programming. Our community partners are vital to this effort, and we look forward to working together to address these critical health needs faced by many.”

Completing a community health needs assessment and report is required of nonprofit hospitals every three years as part of the Affordable Care Act of 2010.
