Lauren Lappe, a patient transporter, is the Decatur Memorial Hospital Colleague of the Month for November.
Her nominators were picking up trash around the Kirkland Lobby Entrance when they noticed an elderly patient had fallen from a wheelchair and hit his head in the parking lot. They immediately called for help, and Lappe was first on the scene to help.
“Lauren brought gauze and bandages, sheets and blankets, basically everything but a bed to help this patient,” one nominator wrote. “She stayed with and comforted the patient until security and the nurses from the Emergency Department arrived. Even though the whole ordeal only lasted several minutes, it was like a weight was lifted off our shoulders to see someone was able to help this patient.”
Lappe has worked for Decatur Memorial Hospital since 2023.
