Two New Physicians Join Memorial Care at Koke Mill

Two physicians recently joined Memorial Care at Koke Mill and are now accepting new patients.

Family medicine physician Dr. Jo Marie Hewitt earned a bachelor of science degree in biology from the University of Kansas and a medical degree from Cebu Institute of Medicine in Cebu City, Philippines, where she was class president. During her residency at Creighton University School of Medicine Department of Family and Community Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska, she was chief resident and received the Society of Family Medicine Resident Teacher Award.

“It is a privilege for me get to know and to work with patients from all ages and walks of life,” Dr. Hewitt said. “My hope is that after a visit with me, my patients will feel heard and have a good understanding of how to meet their health goals. I look forward to being part of this community.”

Pediatrician Dr. Mackenzie Heywood earned a bachelor of science degree in integrative biology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a medical degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. She completed a residency in pediatrics at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, where she served as chief resident in the Department of Pediatrics. Dr. Heywood is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.

“I’m pleased for the opportunity to return to central Illinois to begin my practice,” she said. “It’s rewarding to help give children a healthy start in life.”
