Jo Ellyn Curran, a clinical research coordinator at Decatur Memorial Hospital, is the nonprofit hospital’s Colleague of the Month for February.
Known as the cornerstone of the oncology research department, Jo Ellyn’s attention to detail and the personal care she shows towards each patient ensures a positive patient experience. She also has trained multiple colleagues and embraces opportunities to pitch in when needed.
“Jo Ellyn has always been our ‘definitive source’ of information and knowledge on clinical trials and research processes,” one of her nominators wrote. “She is always an advocate for her patients and goes above and beyond to make sure they are cared for and no detail is left behind.”
Another nominator described how Curran assisted a forgetful patient with consistent appointment reminders – calls, letters and notes – and even helped fill the patient’s pill boxes to make it easier for her to keep track of medications at home.
Curran has worked for Decatur Memorial Hospital since 2000.
