“This designation shows we have met the high criteria set forth by the American College of Surgeons,” said Dr. Adam Reid, medical director for Memorial Bariatric Services and an SIU Medicine physician. “We are proud to be among the top bariatric surgery programs in downstate Illinois, and the Surgical Quality Partner designation reinforces the work we do to ensure we are offering safe, high-quality services to the people we serve.”
Earlier this year, Springfield Memorial Hospital also received accreditation by the Metabolic and Bariatric Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program, which recognizes bariatric surgery centers in the United States and Canada for excellence in patient care.
Memorial Bariatric Services, part of the Memorial Wellness Center, has performed more than 2,000 bariatric surgical procedures at Springfield Memorial Hospital since it was established in 2002.
The Memorial Wellness Center offers both surgical and nonsurgical weight-loss options.
