Scarber primarily works with patients who speak French, but she is also fluent in Luxembourgish, German and Dutch. She is known for her diligent work ethic and follow-through. Recently Scarber assisted with compassion and attention to detail during a pregnancy loss for a patient. She facilitated the communication to help the parents navigate coordination between hospital and funeral home for the arrangements.
“She helped the parents through one of the hardest moments ever,” wrote the nominator. “The patient started care at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital (JMH) but was transferred to Springfield Memorial Hospital (SMH) for more acute OB care. Martine made sure the patient understood provider instructions, stayed with her at JMH, followed to SMH and even volunteered her time to interpret funeral arrangements. Having instructions interpreted by a colleague on the care team who could communicate in the patient’s language was so valuable.”
Scarber has worked for Memorial Health since 2021.
