O’Keefe received his medical degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield in 2012. He completed a combined residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at the University of Missouri in Kansas City, as well as an internal medicine residency at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in 2020. He also completed an infectious disease fellowship at SIU School of Medicine in 2022.

“I feel privileged to practice in central Illinois because I’m from central Illinois – born and raised, so to speak,” he said. “Working with the community, working with the people, gives me a sense of fulfillment. This community has raised me, and it’s been a part of my development, and I see it as a way of giving back.”
