Memorial Medical Center to Begin Construction on Five-Story Parking Garage

7/16/2014

Memorial Medical Center will begin construction this month on a five-story parking garage on the north side of Carpenter Street between Rutledge and Klein streets.

The garage, which was approved by Memorial Health System’s board of directors on July 9, will contain 650 parking spaces and will include rooftop parking. The building will be just south of the Memorial Center for Learning and Innovation, currently under construction.

The 201,664-square-foot garage is expected to be completed by March 2015. An enclosed bridge on the garage’s third floor will connect to the Center for Learning and Innovation’s second floor.

“This new parking structure allows us to create safe and easily accessible parking for our employees while also supporting the intentions and activities of the Memorial Center for Learning and Innovation,” said Aimee Allbritton, vice president of organization development and chief learning officer for Memorial Health System.

The upper four levels will be designated for Memorial employees, and the two lower levels will be reserved for people attending events or classes at the Center for Learning and Innovation. When large events are not being held at the center, the first two levels can be made available for employees.

The construction of the Memorial Center for Learning and Innovation is expected to be completed in mid-February 2015. The installation of the center’s technology will follow, with the building ready for use by the end of March 2015 to coincide with the opening of the parking garage.
