A $30,000 grant through the Taylorville Memorial Foundation will help provide safe housing for Christian County residents in recovery from addiction or in mental health treatment.
Living Recovery Residencies is a collaboration between local landlords and the Christian County Prevention Coalition. The program provides housing for people before the Christian County Problem-Solving Court, which consists of drug court and mental health court.
“The individuals who live in our Living Recovery Residencies homes are expected to follow rules and guidelines consistent with recovery programs and with problem-solving court,” said Sue Paso, therapist with Sue Paso Counseling, who is spearheading the program. “They are provided a home environment that is safe from people and settings that trigger drug use or crime. This environment is conducive to recovery. For example, clients are subject to random drug testing and home inspections.”
Jason Domonousky, a case manager with Paso Counseling, will provide monitoring and assistance to residents in the program.
“Living Recovery Residencies is a tenant case management program in which our clients are supported by trained professionals who will help them learn how to live a healthy life and restore them as contributing members of our community,” Paso said
Housing for the Living Recovery Residencies program is on East Franklin Street, where a renovated apartment complex will house program participants.
Organizers continue to seek funding from groups involved in community health to sustain the program after its initial launch, said Paso. The community health grant provided by the nonprofit hospital’s foundation helps provide up to seven residents with rent and living support while they participate in the court-ordered treatment and recovery program in which they are enrolled.
“The Taylorville Memorial Foundation’s mission of improving the health of our community is moving beyond the four walls of our hospital,” said Raedena Ryan, executive director of the Taylorville Memorial Foundation. “Our newly established Community Health Grant program provides financial support to organizations, such as the Christian County Prevention Coalition, who are working to create a healthier Christian County.”
The Taylorville Memorial Foundation launched its board-directed grant program earlier this year to assist with funding health-related projects in Christian County.
Through the program, the foundation awards grants to local 501(c)(3) nonprofits, education or government organizations to support community health activities.
