Robert Cunningham, RN, Cardiac Cath Lab, is the Memorial Medical Center Colleague of the Month for January. On and off his unit, Cunningham is known for his “therapeutic communication” abilities and the way he is able to calm anxious patients.
Cunningham was recently nominated by a grateful patient for a Daisy Award for Excellence in Nursing. Cunningham backs up his bedside manner with a drive to advance in his nursing practice. The colleagues who nominated Cunningham for Colleague of the Month wrote, “He is a leader for change with new and advanced procedures and processes that improve patient outcomes.”
Cunningham is a key team member in a national trial for treatment of uncontrolled hypertension, and he actively seeks out colleagues for training and knowledge sharing. Cunningham “continuously strives to improve and advance not only his knowledge and skills, but the knowledge and skills of others,” wrote the colleagues who nominated Cunningham.
Cunningham has worked at Memorial Medical Center for 15 years. He enjoys racing RC cars and riding mountain bikes.
