Patient Optimization
Patient Optimization is
designed to help you prepare for an elective procedure, such as
orthopedic or hernia surgery, so you experience the best possible
post-surgical outcomes. Some medical conditions may impact your ability
to recover or achieve the best possible outcomes after your elective
procedure. The individualized Patient Optimization plan will lower your risk for
complications and prepare you for your elective surgery. You will
benefit from the expertise of medical, lifestyle, physical and
nutritional specialists—all within the Memorial Health family.
Our physician-led, multidisciplinary team is committed to working
alongside you, your referring surgeon and your primary care physician
throughout your journey to better health. Together, we will ensure
you are provided with the information and tools necessary to become
better prepared for surgery.
Benefits: Patient Optimization lowers surgical risk and increases positive post-surgical results. For example, your surgeon may ask that you lose weight or quit smoking prior to your surgery to reduce your risk of infection and to maximize your surgical outcomes. Our team can help you meet these preliminary goals. We can also work with you following surgery to support you on your path to better health.
Risks Without Patient Optimization: The purpose of Patient Optimization is risk reduction. Your plan is carefully crafted and your participation monitored by our team of specialists to ensure progress and safety every step of the way. Patient Optimization should be considered one tool to reach the overarching goal of wellness and reduced health risks.
