Wellness care at Memorial Health offers clinical nutrition services, diabetes management and cooking classes designed to improve your overall health, as well as surgical and non-surgical weight loss options to help you reach your goals.

Unlike other programs that offer a one-size-fits-all approach, our program is truly customized to your specific body type and lifestyle needs. This makes our program unique in our region and will help you succeed in your goal to lose weight and achieve great health.


Weight Loss

We are led by a team of physicians, including bariatricians and bariatric surgeons specializing in obesity medicine, who work alongside you and your primary care physician to determine the right treatment option for you. You’ll be supported by a team of experts in nursing, nutrition, lifestyle and fitness for an individualized plan to help you reach your goals.

Weight Loss

  • Surgical Weight Loss:  For patients who struggle with obesity and need to lose a substantial amount of weight to reduce health risks, dieting and exercise alone may not be enough. Bariatric surgery, along with lifestyle changes, could be the right treatment option for you.
    • Roux-en-Y gastric bypass
    • Sleeve gastrectomy
    • Duodenal jejunal bypass with sleeve gastrectomy
    • Duodenal switch
    • Laproscopic adjustable gastric banding
  • Non-Surgical Weight Loss:
    • Endoscopic procedures offer a minimally invasive alternative to traditional weight loss surgeries
    • The intragastric balloon is temporarily placed endoscopically in the stomach for six months. It helps your body adapt to smaller portion sizes. This therapy is used with diet, exercise and possibly medicines before, during and after the balloon.
    • Medical: Visits with medical providers will help determine factors that contribute to your struggle with weight loss.
    • Lifestyle: Visits with medical and behavioral health providers will help you develop new habits. Participation in interactive groups is also highly encouraged.
    • Fitness: Our Medical Weight Loss pathway includes working with a physical therapist to identify how best to incorporate exercise into your new lifestyle.
    • Nutrition: Proper nutrition is an important part of non-surgical weight loss. Therefore, you will have individual visits with registered dieticians.

Wellness

Our program includes an individualized treatment plan, a medically managed program and expertise from lifestyle, physical and nutritional specialists. Treatment plans can include medical and/or surgical therapies, nutrition counseling with registered dietitians and certified diabetes educators and our physical therapists, as well as lifestyle therapies led by licensed clinical social workers, health psychologists and life coaches.

  • Inpatient and Outpatient Nutrition Counseling: Prescribed nutrition therapy is provided by registered dietitians qualified by education, experience and expertise.
  • Diabetes Program: Our accredited diabetes services program will help you learn how to improve glucose control and overall health.
  • Teaching Kitchen: Memorial Wellness Center has a culinary medicine program and themed cooking classes for the community taught in a brand-new kitchen.
  • Patient Optimization: The Patient Optimization program is designed to help you prepare for an elective procedure so you can experience the best possible post-surgical outcomes.
    • Lifestyle Treatments: Lifestyle therapies and techniques, like classes and individualized counseling led by licensed clinical social workers, health psychologists and/or a life coach will guide you to healthier habits and behaviors.
    • Fitness Treatments: Fitness assessments and appropriate treatments led by physical therapists, physical therapy assistants and exercise physiologists will prime you for better surgical outcomes.
  • Healthy You & Healthy You+ Program: Healthy You is a program that encourages weight loss through modest lifestyle changes during weekly meetings with support and accountability.
