A free cooking class on how best to use protein in heart healthy cooking will be offered from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Feb. 26 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in partnership with the University of Illinois Extension office.
Participants will discover the power of protein and how it impacts heart health. The interactive class will feature hands-on cooking with various protein sources as well as education about the different types of proteins, both animal-based and plant-based and how they support the body’s needs.
Lisa Peterson, MS, Nutrition & Wellness Extension Educator, will also teach about ways to manage cholesterol through smart food choices and offer practical tips for creating balanced meals.

On the most recent Community Health Needs Assessment survey, Christian County residents indicated a need for more nutrition education and accessibility of healthy foods. These classes are one way TMH is helping meet that need.
