The University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford recently recognized Jacksonville Memorial Hospital for excellence in helping educate the next generation of rural health physicians.
JMH president and CEO Trevor Huffman accepted the National Center for Rural Health Professions Rural Health Hero Training Site Award during the U of I’s celebration of National Rural Health Day on Nov. 20.
The award recognizes hospitals that provide learning experiences for students in the university’s Rural Medical Education Program (RMED). JMH began hosting RMED students in 2022 and has hosted 23 students to date.
AT JMH, RMED students work alongside and learn from specialists in the areas of primary care, obstetrics, general surgery and intensive care.
“These students have committed to meeting the needs of rural communities like the ones we serve,” said Huffman. “We’re proud to partner with RMED to give them the experience they need to understand the unique needs of those communities as they begin their careers.”
