Taylorville Memorial Hospital invites the public to tackle those New Year’s resolutions and join the “Frosty Footsteps” Challenge, a free month-long walking challenge that runs January 1-31, 2026.
Walkers can log their miles at the Christian County YMCA, which will allow non-members to use their track during January or head outdoors when the weather permits. Non-Y members will be able to utilize the facility free of charge for the challenge in January.
Participants can track cumulative miles using the free Pacer app. Simply scan a QR code to join and use your phone or sync your smartwatch to log your steps. Logging 100 miles earns registered participants a special “Frosty Footsteps” T-shirt.
Aspen Evrley, 44, of Taylorville, walked more than 400 miles during the May Stride to Thrive walking challenge, finishing third of all participants.
“What I appreciate most about the challenge is how it brings everyone together with a shared goal,” she said. “It’s a great reminder to stay active, helps keep me accountable and is a friendly competition that makes it even more motivating. It’s been a fun way to build healthy habits without feeling like a chore.”
Nearly 200 walkers, ranging in age from high school students to seniors, participated in two separate TMH walking challenges in 2025. The walking challenges were a result of heart disease and stroke being selected as a priority health need in the 2024 Community Health Needs Assessment.
