Longtime volunteer Ed McDowall was recognized with a Heart of Gold award at the UIS Good as Gold ceremony held April 21 at the university.
“Ed has donated more than 2,000 hours in his role as a Eucharistic Minister for Springfield Memorial Hospital,” said Ginny Evans, director of hospitality for Memorial Health. “He has been instrumental in maintaining spiritual support for our Catholic patients, and his commitment to this ministry extends well beyond delivering the sacrament. He also brings a sense of peace, hope and companionship to those who face challenging moments with their health.”
The University of Illinois Springfield, Junior League of Springfield and the United Way of Central Illinois honored more than 40 Sangamon County volunteers, businesses and organizations during the 17th annual Good as Gold Ceremony in the UIS Student Union.
The Good as Gold Ceremony began in 2008 to honor people, businesses and organizations who freely give their time and talents to make Sangamon County a better place to live.
