Ava McGlothlin, a phlebotomist and lab assistant with Memorial Care on S. 6th St. in Springfield, is the Memorial Health Ambulatory Group Colleague of the Month for April.
McGlothlin treats each patient with respect and integrity. If a patient needs assistance at a different location, she finds out where they need to go and helps direct them. She is also conscientious about safety, making sure she closes her needles and deposits them directly into sharps containers.
Recently, a patient experienced a vasovagal response to having blood drawn, which is a sudden, often temporary drop in heart rate and blood pressure that can lead to fainting or lightheadedness.
“Ava laid the seat back immediately, notified providers and stayed calm and collected,” wrote one nominator. “She followed our protocol, all the correct steps. She always gives quality care to our patients, and we are fortunate to have her as a Memorial colleague.”
McGlothlin has worked for Memorial Health since 2021.
