Abby Wubker, RN, was recently recognized by Springfield Memorial Hospital as the February Colleague of the Month.
Wubker finds meaningful ways to bring comfort and dignity to even the most critical situations. Her approach to care exemplifies the highest standards of the nursing profession and Memorial's organizational values.
"Abby consistently demonstrates extraordinary compassion, initiative and patient-centered care,” wrote one nominator. "She recently was truly a highlight of the week—and the month."
Wubker's commitment to patient dignity and comfort is evident. While caring for a patient who experienced a serious head injury after a fall, she took time to learn about a meaningful moment the patient had shared with their spouse. She arranged for a favorite ice cream to be delivered to the patient's spouse so that a small but deeply personal comfort could still be experienced during a difficult time.
Another colleague shared a recent example of Wubker's dedication: "A patient was disheveled and had unclean belongings, and this colleague took the initiative to ensure the patient's hair was cleaned and detangled. They also personally took the patient's clothing to be washed."
The nominator went on to describe how all of this was accomplished while Wubker simultaneously cared for a distressed patient in another room.
"I felt she deserved recognition for truly going the extra mile to make sure the patient was set up for success. They are genuinely a one-of-a-kind gem," the nominator concluded.
