Mary Jones, a phlebotomist and laboratory assistant at Memorial Care on Koke Mill, is the Memorial Health Ambulatory Group Colleague of the Month for September.
Jones is known for her attention and care in drawing blood from pediatric patients who are often anxious about needles and don’t understand the process.
“Mary works with our families, our nurses and us to ensure our patients have the best experience possible,” a physician nominator wrote. “She double-checks the labs we ordered to ensure our patients have the least ‘pokes’ as possible. She also keeps snacks and Gatorade available if they get lightheaded from the blood draw.”
Another nominator noted Jones’ approach to managing bilirubin level draws. She comes directly to the provider rooms to perform the procedure, ensuring timely and efficient care.
“Just that one action minimizes patient movement and potential risks, reducing patient wait times and enhancing overall department efficiency.”
Jones has worked for Memorial Health since 2005.
