A free cooking class on safe home canning will be offered from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in partnership with University of Illinois Extension.
On the recent Community Health Needs Assessment survey, Christian County residents indicated a need for more nutrition education and accessibility of healthy foods. This class is one way TMH helps meet that need.
Participants will learn the fundamentals of water bath canning, discover which recipe tweaks are safe (and which aren’t) and leave with research-backed canning recipes. Hands-on practical experience with making a no-sugar-needed strawberry jam and a low-sodium dill pickle recipe is included.
