Race Proceeds Benefit Local Food Pantries

2/12/2024

The Cass County Food Pantry and Jacksonville Food Center recently received checks for $2,282.93 each, the proceeds from last fall’s Jacksonville Memorial Hospital 5K/10K Race.

“We’re proud to continue the JMH Race legacy of giving back to the community,” said Kevin Eckhoff, race director. “Both of these organizations are seeing increased demand, so it’s rewarding to be able to help them meet the needs of families in our area.”

Jacksonville Food Center serves more than 500 families each month. Director Melissa Hall said that the check from JMH will cover the organization’s total food costs for one week.

“We are grateful to JMH and all the runners who participated in the race for their support,” she said. “The donation is especially appreciated during this time of great need.”

Cass County Food Pantry relies solely on donations to fund their monthly food distribution.

“We are seeing new families each month,” said Cass County Food Pantry director Tom Prather. “We are very grateful for this additional support as we work to meet the growing need.”

Total proceeds from last year’s JMH 5K/10K were $4,565.86.
