Our goal is to improve access to quality healthcare for all residents of central Illinois. The Foundation awards grants to central Illinois organizations with 501(c)(3) classifications or educational institutions in communities served by Memorial Health.

Grants are awarded for health-related projects focused on patient care, research and education that benefit people served by Memorial Health and other nonprofit community organizations.

Grant applications are reviewed by the Foundation Grant Review Committee, which includes members of the Springfield Memorial Foundation board of directors, Foundation staff and representatives of Springfield Memorial Hospital. Applicants are notified in May.

What We Do Not Fund

We receive many more requests than we can fund. As a result, grants are not considered for the following: individuals, private foundations, organizations not determined by the IRS to be a tax-exempt public charity under 501(c)(3), organizations classified by the IRS as 509 (a)(3), national or regional organizations, unless their programs address specific local community needs, programs or initiatives where primary purpose is promotion of religious doctrine or tenets, elementary or secondary schools (except to provide special initiatives or programs not provided by regular school budgets), political action or legislative advocacy groups, endowment funds, multiple-year campaigns.

Springfield Memorial Foundation will not engage in philanthropic giving to organizations which the Foundation finds discriminate against a person or group because of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age or marital status.
