Lauren Fencik is April Colleague of the Month

8/25/2020

In just four years, Lauren Fencik, RN, Surgery, has transitioned from no surgery experience to training new colleagues as scrub nurses in her department.

“Lauren’s quality of work has proven her to be a leader,” said the colleague who nominated her for the Colleague of the Month award. “She is conscientious and ensures instruments meet safety standards for sterilization prior to surgery. She’s the one we want to train new colleagues.”

As a scrub nurse, Fencik is responsible for assisting the surgeon and other team members during surgical cases. “We prepare the operating rooms for each case, perform the case, clean and then start over again,” said Fencik. “I love seeing each patient’s anatomy and learning new things each day.”

Fencik earned her associate degree in nursing from Hannibal-LaGrange University. Her future goals include obtaining a bachelor’s of science degree in nursing and a certification in perioperative nursing.

Fencik resides in Perry with her son, Logan. She enjoys the outdoors, farm life and slow pitch softball.

The Colleague of the Month at Passavant receives eight hours off with pay, a special plaque and pin, a close parking space for one month in the physicians’ parking garage and a decorated cake.
